DESCRIPTION

Dark Matter begins similar to a top-down triangle shawl with an I-cord tab cast on.  After working several rows flat, the ends are joined and patterning continues in the round to create a bandana style cowl.  This method of construction requires no seaming!  The color pattern is created using mosaic colorwork, which uses only one color every 2 rows, even though both colors of yarn remain attached.  

This is an intermediate color work project suitable for anyone wishing to dip their toes into mosaic stitches.  The pattern instructions are both written and charted, and also include helpful video links for specific skills.  Class work will cover how to work all aspects of this project, from the cast on, to reading the written or charted instructions, how to attach and carry yarns, and especially how to work the mosaic slip stitch color work.

MATERIALS NEEDED

• KnitStudio64 Dark Matter Cowl pattern (included in price of class, printed copy will be provided at 1st class session. A digital copy will be provided through Ravelry.)
  
• Suggested Yarns
  • DK or Light worsted weight: Spun Right Round Squish DK Speckles, Spun Right Round Squish DK Tonal, Plymouth DK Merino Superwash, Rowan Felted Tweed, Junction Fiber Mill Making Tracks DK, Plymouth Galway Worsted, Harrisville Highland worsted 
• Suggested needle sizes:
  • Needle A: US #5 (3.75 mm) straight or circular for bind off
  • Needle B: US #6 (4.0 mm) 32-inch circular needle
  • Needle C: US #7 (4.5 mm) 32-inch circular
  • Crochet hook to match Needle A
  • Cable needle or spare needle to match size of Needle C
  • OR SIZES NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE
• Notions
  • scissors, stitch markers, tapestry needle, waste yarn for crochet provisional cast on

GAUGE: 21 stitches and 46 rows / 4 inches using Needle C and Chart 2 of pattern, blocked and relaxed.

SKILLS NEEDED

You should already know how to knit and purl.  Working in-the-round knitting experience will be helpful, but is not necessary.
